The Capitol University Alumni Association, Inc. (CUAA) will have its first ever “CU Alumni Run 2013”  today, July 14, 2013, Sunday, 4:30am expecting more than 2,000 runners from its alumni members, friends, faculty and staff,  students, sponsors and participants from the general public.

3K route is from Capitol University (CU) to Lapasan Flyover and back to CU; 5K is from CU to Capitol University Medical City (CUMC) and back to CU and; 10K is from CU to Mandaue Foam and back to CU.

The primary objective of the run is to raise funds for the CUAA projects such as Medical and Dental Missions, Tree Planting and Growing Initiatives, Blood Letting Campaigns, Operation Tuli, Job Fair, Home Building Activities and various assistance activities to alumni members.

“Apart from raising funds, we believed that run activities like this promotes health, fitness and camaraderie among runners”, alumni board member and race director Lulani Grace “Lani” Deleste said.

The run, first of its kind since the Alumni Association was established 1982 is fully supported by Capitol University and Capitol University Medical City.

Exclusive media partners are the six-paper publications of Business Week Mindanao, GMA Channel  12/35 for the broadcast media and Bombo Radyo Philippines for the AM radio outfit.

Major sponsors are Freshe  Bioscience, Unilab, Concentrix and Ms. Gilda “Gigi” Go.

With its mission of promoting the social, economic, and moral welfare of its members, the CU communities, and the nation in general, the Board of Directors of Capitol University Alumni Association, Inc. (CUAA) who were elected during the 42nd Alumni Homecoming of Capitol University last February 16, 2013 is very proud to share its accomplishments for the last two years of its operation.

CAPITOL UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (CUAA) will be hosting a fun run on July 14, 2013 entitled CU Alumni RUN 2013. We will be doing a 3k, 5k and 10k race category starting from the CU Main Campus in Osmena Ext. to Lapasan, Gusa and Cugman, this City

CUAA, Inc. is a SEC-registered association and duly recognized by the Capitol University Administration.

The association already completed two  sets of Medical and Dental Missions and will support the Bombo Medico Dental and Medical Mission this July 14, 2013 at the CU Gym; supported the 2011 and 2012 CU Job Fair;  sponsored and coordinated at least eighteen (18) Blood Letting Activities, Tree Planting Activity in Consolacion Riverside with PNA-Mis. Or. Chapter and Peak Excellence Review Center and spearheaded the highly successful “10,000 Trees in 10 Sundays Project” in Balubal, CDO and led more than 3,000 volunteers to home-building activities for Gawad Kalinga and Habitat for Humanity. They also had two gift-giving activities, first, to the school children in Puntod and second to the TS Sendong Survivors in Navaro Amakan Village Relocation Area.

The first Medical and Dental Mission was held in Brgy. Puntod last year which served at least 500 patients. The association also donated 10 life rafts and 200 meters of rope for emergency response near the coastal line.

The second Medical and Dental Mission was in collaboration with the Veterans Federation of the Philippines – Sons and Daughters, Inc. in SM – Cagayan de Oro which served more than 700 patients.

With the immediate objective of strengthening its governance, the boards of directors meet at least a month to discuss activities to invite participation from the Alumni, CU Communities, students and the general public and create linkages of stakeholders, companies, other associations and media personalities.

While the CUAA supported the various relief operations for the victims of Sendong, they focused on the “Re-building” phase by helping in the installation of 45 ShelterBox Tents in Lumbia Elementary School.

Since March 10, and every week, thereafter, the association closely worked with the student volunteers from College of Maritime Education, College of Business Administration, College of Engineering and College of Criminology to build permanent houses in Upper Camama-an, Sitio Calaana-an and Brgy. Indahag. The tasks include excavation, filling, back-filling, block layering, painting and landscaping.

With the relevance of 5-country, 2-in-the-Philippines synchronized Habitat Youth Build activity last May 12, 2012, the CU Alumni hosted the Press Conference in the CU Nursing Lobby duly attended by 10 volunteers from Habitat and 25 Media Personalities from 18 News Outfits.

CUAA also initiated the first CU – Alumni Basketball Championships, were at least 150 members of the alumni, CU faculty and employees from Capitol University Medical City represented the 18 teams divided into three brackets. The CU Non-Teaching Staff Team 2 snatched the first ever crown over the team from Cooperative of Misamis Oriental. In the most recent homecoming, CU Alumni organized the “Alumni Week Sports Fest” led by the active participation of the CCC/CUBED Batch 1990.

The association also bares its new membership ID which has a “discount and freebie card” feature from at least 20 establishments and offices. The card is only P 150.00 and the funds raised will ensure continuity and sustainability of the alumni’s projects and programs.

For more information, Alumni members who were registered before 2008 are encourage to apply for the new ID and be involved in the upcoming activities.
