The Capitol University Alumni Association recently organized the “Capitol University Alumni Basketball Championships” or CU-ABC.

On the court, it seems it’s only bent to squeeze the competitive juice from the players ranging from Alumni, students, faculty members and friends but truly, the tournament’s objectives were to promote health, fitness and camaraderie among the teams and its players, plus, the most important of all: the proceeds goes to the intended recipients: the deserving athletic scholars of Capitol University.

On its inaugural tournament last March 8, 2012, a total of 18 teams signed-up to compete for the coveted crown.

After 25 game-playing days held in CU Open Court and CUBED covered court, a championship match was set between Cooperative Bank of Misamis Oriental (CBMO) and CU Non-Teaching Staff Team 2 (NTS2).

Last May 2, 2012, on the very memorable day the university remembers Madame Laureana San Pedro Rosales on her birthday, NTS2 drubs CBMO in the lone knock-out match, 91-88 and former college standout Junjun Estroga torched the triumvirate towers of CBMO: proud alumni of CU who are now working for a bank: Go, Taboclaon and Caritas.

Kia-Alwana team bag the third place over the Braveheart team.

The elimination round was classified into three divisions. Group A has: Cagayan de Oro Medical Center Team 1, HO Academy, CU Non-Teaching Staff Team 1, CU Executive, CU Criminology and Capitol University Medical City Team 1.

Group B was compose of Braveheart, NTS2, CDO Medical Center Team 2, CUMC Team 2, CU Nursing and Maria Reyna Hospital while Group C has CBMO, Kia, CUBED, FBC Business Solutions, Philippine Red Cross and He & Sons.

Top 2 teams from each bracket proceeds to the one-playoff game and winners proceed to the semi-finals.

Pending approval from the CU Administration, the “Second Season” of CU-ABC should encourage the teams to participate even more.

The following are the minimum requirements: each team must have at least 5 Alumni from CU and those 5 pay Alumni Membership Due if their last payment was 2007 or earlier.

Each team must have a complete set of uniforms, and the upper jersey must have the CU Logo and the text below it “CU-ABC”.

Each team must pay complete registration fee and each team’s representative must join the “CU-ABC Basketball Clinic” to be updated of latest SBP-FIBA Rules and Regulations.
